Visiting Texas Capitol Visitors Center: Tours and Guidelines

Guided Tours

For a more in-depth experience, consider a guided tour. Knowledgeable guides lead visitors through key areas of the Capitol. You’ll learn fascinating stories about the building itself, the state’s rich history, and the workings of the legislature. These tours are completely free and operate on a schedule:

• Monday through Friday: Tours run periodically between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The last tour departs at 3:30 p.m.
• Saturday and Sunday: Tours are available between 12:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The last departure is at 3:30 p.m.

Self-Guided Tours

Do you prefer to explore on your own? Opt for a self-guided tour. Brochures with informative content are available at the Capitol’s north entrance or the Capitol Information and Guide Services Office. You can explore the Capitol and its grounds at your own pace with a self-guided tour. It’s open from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends.

Important Guidelines for All Visitors

The Texas Capitol prioritizes accessibility for all visitors. If you have any mobility concerns, review the Accessibility Services Page before your visit.

Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind:

• Watch for uneven floors and stairs in the historic building that may cause you to trip, slip, or fall.
• Photography is permitted, but be mindful of other visitors and building occupants.
• Tours typically depart every 30-45 minutes and last about 30 minutes.
• Groups larger than ten people require a reservation. You can make arrangements by calling (512) 305-8402.
• School groups, youth groups, camps, or scout groups should visit the field trips page for scheduling information.
• Call ahead for a tour in another language.
