While the most common way to get around town is by car, some public transportation options exist. Austinites can travel around the city on the Capital Metro, with tickets as low as $1.25 with bus and metro options.
The cost of living in Austin is higher than in other Texas cities and the rest of the country. Although the cost of living is high, many residents still find it an excellent place to live because their median household income is higher than most other Americans. The national average is $65,712 per household compared with Austin’s median income of over $80K.
Austin’s biggest employers include Dell and Apple, among other big-name businesses. High-tech manufacturing is also prevalent—along with video game production and space technology.
The city also has a low unemployment rate of 3.1%, well below the national average (3.8%).
Austin has a reputation as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” and it’s well-earned. There are more than 250 music venues in town, so you’ll never run out of places to listen to local bands or see live performances.
Austin is also full of fantastic restaurants, but residents don’t overlook the more than 1,000 food trucks that roam the city daily. From tacos to classic southern cuisine, everyone can find something to enjoy!
Austin might be worth considering if you’re looking for somewhere new to live. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops to keep you busy, and there are fun things to do all over this city all year. So what’s not to love?
