In many cities in Texas and all over the country, Pride Month is in June. But Austin, Texas, does things its way. Instead of celebrating Pride in June like everyone else, Austin decided to have its Pride Parade and Festival in August.
Why? Austin Pride goes down in August mostly because it’s just easier that way. They need about 400 volunteers, and many college students will be back in town by then. Plus, rain insurance is cheaper in August because it’s drier. The festival runs about $100,000, half from sponsors and the rest from fundraising and ticket sales.
